Dear Friends:
With more than 10,000 students annually, there is no question that MCC is having a powerful impact on the lives of students and their families. Since the early beginnings more than 80 years ago, thousands of individuals have improved their lives and lifetime earnings through the educational offerings at MCC.
As President of the Alumni Association, the sheer numbers shouldn't surprise me. I meet and deal with individuals every day who have attended this school, many under one of the various names including Flint Junior College, Genesee Community College or Mott Junior College.
So why aren't we quick to publicly declare MCC as our alma mater? Historically, community colleges across the country have had to deal with a false stereotype that their open enrollment represents a substandard education. Too many people wrongly believe that community colleges provided easier classes that provide a last chance for many students who could not be accepted at a University. I assure you, nothing about Mott Community College is substandard. The stereotypical arguments could not be further from the truth for me or any of my colleagues.
In fact, just the opposite is true. MCC is the most logical, practical choice to make for any household, especially in today's economic climate. Dollar for dollar, MCC provides an academic foundation second to none. Our instructors have proven themselves committed to the academic success of every student. Our community resources ensure that our students learn inside and outside the classroom.
I am proud of the education I received at MCC. The members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors are also proud. We hope you are too. I invite you to join us in one of our many activities by calling 810.762.0425.
Sincerely,
Ramona Roberts
President, Alumni Association
