Jimmy King
As
Chair of The Foundation for Mott Community College, I am most pleased
with our outstanding achievement of surpassing $5 million in assets in
2008. The Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization established
in 1986, is governed by a board of community volunteers. It exists as
a fourth funding stream to provide financial assistance beyond the traditional
income garnered from tuition, property tax and state revenue. It plays
a critical role in actively assisting both Mott Community College and
the 10,200 students of the MCC campuses.
Our $5 million milestone further establishes our charitable organization as a reliable and solid support system for students, the college and the greater Flint community. We can now better assist students with scholarships, improve our efforts with promoting special projects at the college and further enhance the quality of education and opportunity in the community. Currently, the Foundation supports more than 100 scholarships; nearly 50 endowment funds and a number of special projects designed to strengthen economic development; enhance education and training; create new career programs; support professional development for faculty and staff as well as educational, literary and scientific activities at MCC.
Our most recent achievement, and nearly every other goal the Foundation
pursues, could never be possible without the commitment and generous
support of this outstanding community. Your generosity enables the Foundation
to help MCC help itself. With continued support, we are confident we
will reach our next milestone of $6 million to benefit our great students
and the fine community we proudly serve.
Do you have friends, family members or co-workers who once attended
this college? Though there have been many name changes - Flint Junior
College, Flint Community College, Genesee Community College - the mark
of excellence has endured throughout the years. As long as a person has
taken one or more class during their lifetime, they are considered an
alum. I invite you to help us update our database by sending updated
names, addresses, city/state/zip code and/or phone number, email address
to:
The Foundation for MCC
1401 E. Court St., Flint, MI 48503.
The information will be kept
strictly confidential.
On behalf of the Foundation of Mott Community College, thank you for
your commitment to our students and to the community. Your support is
making the academic dreams come true for thousands of students who otherwise
might not have the opportunity to make their dreams a reality.
Sincerely,
Jimmy King, Chair
Foundation for Mott Community College
