The Jennifer O’Neil Graphic Design Golf Outing, was held at Sugarbush Golf Club in Davison, Michigan on August 2nd and was well attended. Proceeds went to the Jennifer O’Neil Graphic Design Scholarship Endowment.

The MCC-Lapeer Golf Outing was held
September 5th at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, MI
with proceeds to the Lapeer Learner Scholarship! |
A Sneak Peek of the Bear Sculpture was offered on September 3rd to donors contributing to the project, as well as faculty and students who worked on it over the past three years.

The official and long-awaited Bear Unveiling was
held September 24th along with the 10th Anniversary
of MCC’s newly-remodeled Trustee Memorial
Courtyard. Unveiling attendees and courtyard
brick/bench owners were hosted to a reception.
The bear sculpture affectionately titled “Babe” by
faculty and students was commissioned three years
ago and made possible by contributions from the
Ruth Mott Foundation, the Bruin Club, and the
Honorable and Mrs. Thomas Yeotis. |

The 16th Annual Peace & Dignity Ceremony was held October 13th on the lawn outside Curtice-Mott. This sacred ceremony celebrates the "Four Colors" of the world. |

The Ballenger Lecture Series held its semi-annual lecture on October 24th. Mothers of Invention: Women In Science featured keynote speaker Dorceta Taylor, PhD, Associate Professor of Environmental Sociology and Associate Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and panelists Amy Cheng Vollmer, PhD, Professor of Biology, Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, Pennsylvania), Tammy Chang, MD, Physician of Family Medicine and Founder/Director of Health in Action (Ann Arbor, Michigan), Jennifer Fillion, MA, Professor of Anthropology, Archeology and Forensics, Mott Community College (Flint, Michigan), and Terri Lynch-Caris, PhD, Associate Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Kettering University (Flint, Michigan).

The 7th Annual MCC Distinguished Alumni & Outstanding Retiree Awards Dinner was held on October 29th and honored alums Dr. Gladys Beckwith, Al Koegel, Michael Rachor and Judge Robert Ransom, as well as outstanding retiree Grayce Scholt. These prestigious awards are granted to alums and MCC retirees who show outstanding service to the college and community. |

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Dinner was held January 15, 2009 at the Sarvis Center and featured guest speaker Linda V. Parker, Director of Civil Rights in Michigan. The event was extremely well attended.

February featured Black History Month Celebration with specialty African cuisine and entertainment every Wednesday at Applewood Cafe. Join us next year!

Motown, Mott & More lip sync performance was held May 15th and was a huge success! The evening featured acts such as Whitney Houston by Pat Scott; Little Richard by Michael Simon; Prince by Raul Alvarez; Gloria Estefan by Robin Benson; and John Travolta & Olivia Newton by Dale Weighill & Elizabeth Saab – to name a few! Join us again in 2010!

On June 11th, the Foundation held the event, "Hats Off to Ruby Jean!" - a celebration of Ruby Jean Butler's indomitable spirit! An inspiration to many, this tribute was truly an honor for the Foundation and event sponsors to host. |
The 7th Annual Heritage Society Dinner was held June 18th at hosts Carol and Gary Hurand's residence. The evening honored the Foundation for MCC's planned giving, annual giving, and endowment donors. Thank you to our hosts, the Hurands, for a wonderful evening! And many thanks to our donors who make it possible to provide scholarships and awards to Mott students and help provide innovative college programs.
