There
is a vital connection between the needs of the labor market and
those of industry and business within the Michigan counties:
Genesee
Huron
Lapeer
Livingston
Macomb
Oakland
Sanilac
Shiawassee
St. Clair
Tuscola
Partners representing business, industry, education/training
institutions, workforce development agencies, governmental entities and chambers
of commerce, began developing a consortium to address workforce development needs
on a regional basis.

This
partnership identified, as a primary issue, the gap between the
skills needed by employers and the skills held by the workforce.
Furthermore, it was agreed that building a link between employees
and jobs in technology would be accomplished effectively only
if a regional strategy was developed.
As consortium
membership and efforts are renewed and strengthened, organizations invested
in the goals of the consortium agree to actively participate in the continuation
of this initiative.
Organizations will commit time and resources to insure the outcomes of the strategic
plan developed by the consortium are achieved.
Organizations also agree to work cooperatively with others across regional boundaries
to further develop this emerging consortium, minimize duplication of efforts
and maximize mutual efforts to address the skill shortages in the ten county
region.
