Board of Trustee Biographies

Lenore Croudy

Lenore Croudy, Chair
Lenore Croudy has been a Mott Community College Board of Trustees member for over 20 years. She was elected to her fourth, six-year term on the Board of Trustees in 2005. Serving the board in a variety of offices, she has been its chairperson since 1995. She also served on the National Board of Directors and as the Central Regional Chairperson for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) and is the State Chairperson of the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA).

Croudy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia State College, and a Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University. She has been an educator in the Flint Community Schools for over 30 years. The Flint Panhellenic Council named Croudy “Citizen of the Year” for her outstanding community service. Community organizations she has been involved with include the Human Relations Commission, the Urban League Board of Directors, the YWCA, the Board of Directors for the Visually Impaired, the Salvation Army, One Hundred Women and the Voluntary Action Center. She has also served as the president of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. In 2007, Croudy was awarded the Governor George Romney Lifetime Achievement Award for Volunteerism by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm at the Governor’s Service Awards in Detroit.

John Snell, Jr., D.V.M.

John Snell, Jr., D.V.M., Vice Chair
John Snell, Jr., D.V.M., was elected to his first term in office on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 1989. He was re-elected for a fourth six-year term on the board in 2007 and has served numerous positions on the board.

Snell is a doctor of veterinary medicine and owned and operated the Eascor Animal Hospital in Flint for the past 20 years. Prior to this position, he was a member of the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps.

Snell attended Michigan State University, where he earned his B.S. and D.V.M. degrees. He is active in numerous civic, service and professional organizations including the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the Humane Society of Genesee County, the Whaley Children’s Center, the Alumni Council for Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, LOVE Inc., and Flint Area Churches.

James B. Bettendorf, D.Min.

James B. Bettendorf, D.Min., Secretary
Father Bettendorf was elected to his first term in office on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 1987. He was re-elected for a fourth six-year term in 2005. He has served as chair, treasurer and secretary of the board. Bettendorf is the director of the Flint Newman Center and pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Flint. For many years, Fr. Bettendorf has been involved in campus ministry at local colleges and has received national awards for his work on college campuses.

A longtime resident of Flint, Bettendorf was one of the planners and originators of the Catholic Committee of Concern, and the North End Soup Kitchen. A Doctor of Ministry, he received his Master of Arts at Western Michigan University, his Bachelor of Sacred Theology at St. John’s Seminary in Plymouth, and his Bachelor of Arts at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. Father Bettendorf is active in many civic and service organizations including the Urban League of Flint, GLS Health Systems Agency, the local Boy Scouts, and the Genesee County Probation Advisory Board.

Albert Koegel

Albert Koegel, Treasurer
Albert J. Koegel was elected to his first term of office on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 1991. He was re-elected to his third six-year term in 2003. He has served as secretary and treasurer for the board. Koegel is an alumnus of Mott Community College (then Flint Junior College) and has a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Michigan.

Koegel owns and operates Koegel Meats, a Flint Township business his father founded, which employs more than 120 people. His public service interests and involvements include the Mott Children’s Health Center, the Flint Institute of Music, the Greater Flint Chamber of Commerce, and the Genesee Area Focus Council. He is also president of Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Andrew Everman
Andrew Everman, Trustee
Andrew (Andy) Everman of Flushing was elected to his first term on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 2005. He is owner of Impression Printing in Clio. He has done course work at Mott Community College, Ferris State University, University of Michigan-Flint and three universities in Asia. Mr. Everman is a Flushing High School graduate.

Sally Shaheen Joseph

Sally Shaheen Joseph, J.D., Trustee
Sally Shaheen Joseph was elected to her first term of office on the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 2007. An attorney, she brings over 25 years of experience in politics to MCC, serving as a Township Trustee, Supervisor, City Administrator, Personnel Director, Risk Manager and Purchasing Agent. She currently serves as an advisory board member of the Flint Area Salvation Army, board member of Planned Parenthood of East Central Michigan, Planned Parenthood of Michigan, Arab-American Institute Board, Executive Board and Arab-American Institute National Policy Council. A former president of The Michigan Public Risk Management Association, Sally Shaheen Joseph is a former board member of Genesee County YWCA, Easter Seals, Michigan Women's Foundation, Flint Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau and the Fair Winds Council of Girl Scouts of America. She is the recipient of Mott Community College's Carroll Clark Civic Service Award. She has also received Rotary International's Paul Harris Award by the Genesee Valley Rotary and the Salvation Army's Hands of Mercy Award. She was chosen as the American-Arab Heritage Council's "Woman of the Year" in 2000 and was appointed to the Michigan Women's Commission in August 2003. Sally Shaheen Joseph attended Mott Community College, graduated from Cooley Law School and The University of Michigan-Flint.

Celia Turner

Celia Turner, Trustee
Celia M. Turner was elected to her first six-year term as a member of the Mott Community College Board of Trustees in 2003. She works as a consignment operation coordinator at General Motors Service Parts Operations. Ms. Turner received a Master’s Degree in Administration (1994) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (1992) from Central Michigan University. She is a graduate of Flint Central High School.

An active member of her community, Ms. Turner is involved with numerous organizations and activities. She is a Board Member of the Light of the World Foundation, a Board Member of the Michigan Senior Network Service Agency, an Executive Board Member and Co-Chair of the UNCF Flint Branch, and an Executive Board Member of the NAACP. In 2001, Ms. Turner was a recipient of the YWCA of Greater Flint Corporate Women of Achivement Award for General Motors Service Parts Operations World Headquarters in Grand Blanc. In 2007, Celia Turner was elected to the Board of Directors of the national Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) as a Delegate-at-Large.
