Every summer, MCC’s Humanities Division hosts a Creative Expressions Camp for area middle school students. The camp, which is geared for ages 9-12, is intended to spark children’s creativity and excitement about writing, as well as help them build confidence as writers. Campers rotate through a series of different workshops over the course of the three-day camp. Workshops are taught by MCC Humanities faculty and students. Past workshops have included such themes as “Write a Ghost Story,” “Create a Superhero,” “Powerpoint Poetry,” “Poetry from a Visual Image,” “Playwriting,” and others. Each year, the camp culminates in an evening reception during which campers present their work to friends and family. The response from children and parents who have participated in the camp in the past has been very enthusiastic. The camp is supported by the Foundation for Mott.
