John Fontana has a unique perspective of Mott Community College – as both an alumni and a current employee. John received his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from MCC and has been employed in law enforcement for over 30 years. His passion for serving the Flint/Genesee County communities and the College has been demonstrated though his work as a Patrol/Paramedic Supervisor at Genesee County Sheriff Department, a Medical Examiner Investigator for the County, and an Investigator for the Prosecutor’s Office. Retiring from the Sheriff’s Department in 2011, John then continued his career by returning to his alma mater. As a Police Sergeant in MCC’s Public Safety Department, he serves as the Lead Investigator and is the supervisor/mentor of 24 student police officers. An advocate of lifelong learning, John recently graduated from the Michigan State University School of Staff and Command and is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree through Ferris State University. He is honored to serve on the Alumni Board and appreciates the opportunity to give back to the institution that has played such a significant role in his life.
Grace Glass, alumni class of '1990, became active with the Alumni Association shortly after graduation. "I truly enjoy working with the Alumni Association of my alma mater and working with the people serving on the Board." Grace remembers taking classes at Mott in the late '60s as a salaried employee of General Motors – many of her bosses by day at GM became her instructors by night at Mott. "I always felt comfortable learning different things and truly enjoyed the atmosphere." Grace was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and moved to Flint with her family in 1955. After she retired from General Motors, she worked as a substitute teacher for Flint Community Schools. She currently is President of Economic Development in Flint Township, is a member of the Youth Leadership Steering Committee, the Flint Institute of Music's Black Classical Music Festival, Flint Institute of Arts, the Urban League and Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
