|New Coach - Same Direction|
The Mott Community College “Wrestling Bears” will be competing in their 7th season as eastern Michigan’s first NCWA collegiate program. This year the team will be joined by two other eastern Michigan teams, Oakland University and Saginaw Valley State University. These healthy rivalries in the making will be competing to determine who will reign as the best of the east. Newcomer, University of Michigan—Ann Arbor NCWA and perennial powerhouse Grand Valley State University will decide the best of the west title.
Mott Community College is pleased to announce that several administrative changes are being made to further promote the successful "Bears Wrestling" program. MCC Vice-President, Scott Jenkins, and Athletic Director, Tom Healey, have worked to put the wrestling program under the direction of the athletic department. The wrestling team, along with other future programs, will be catagorized as extra-curricular athletics. This move allows for the hiring of a full-time coach, streamlines administrative procedures and ensures the future continuity of the program.
The team has produced a national champion, ten all-americans, finished NCC Regional Runner-up twice, coached a total of 41 National Qualifiers, designed a grant program entitled "Flint Youth Wrestling," and compiled a dual meet record of 25-8. Six Mott wrestlers have moved on to wrestle at four year institutions. Five Mott wrestlers are presently coaching in local school districts
