Letitia graduated form
Flint Northern and attended the University of Washington. While
in high school, Letitia never played on a loosing team. She
played in six State Championship Teams at Northern; three
in basketball and three in track and field. Letitia
was Second Team All-Valley in her sophomore year and was
named to the Saginaw Valley First Team her junior and senior
years. In her senior year, she was named Student
Athlete of the Year and was the most highly recruited player
in the state, making her one of the best all around female
athletes to graduate from Flint Northern.
While at the University of Washington, she was an All-American
candidate as guard in her senior year. She led the
Washington Huskies in scoring, assist, steals and blocked
shots. Coach Hughley has posted a 95-98 record at Mott with three National Tournament placements (including a school record 3rd place in 2007).
Jim Vanitvelt is in his first year as the assistant coach of the Lady Bears. He is a graduate of Northwood University where he played basketball and baseball. His coaching career of over 30 years includes varsity basketball at Kearsley, Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central, Clio and Lake Fenton high schools. He was also the head baseball coach at Powers Catholic winning the first State Championship, 2 Big Nine championships and earned the State Coach of the Year award. Vanitvelt and the 1974 State Championship team were inducted into the Greater Flint Hall of Fame.
