Coach Stoody is in what will be his first full year as Head of the Bears Cross Country Team. Stoody has been coaching distance running with programs in the Metro League and the Big Nine for the past five years.
Winston has had a very productive recruiting season this year. The 2007 men’s team will be made up of nine freshman athletes from Flint area schools. "I have been very fortunate in being able to recruit a number of the areas outstanding runners including first team all conference runners from the Metro League (David Deng, Fenton) the Big Nine (Dan Gay, Davison) and Saginaw Valley (Brandon Brancheau, Flint Central), along with top runners from Carman-Ainsworth, Kearsley and Lake Fenton."
The women’s team will be led by Linden standout Kayla Duke. Kayla is coming off a stellar high school career where she most recently won Metro League Track Championships in both the mile and two mile.
The fact that both teams will be made entirely of freshman does not deter Coach Stoody of setting the lofty goals of finishing second in the MCCAA as well as qualifying both teams for Nationals. "This is a great group of kids and I look forward to helping them reach their potential as individuals and a team." |
