There has been an on-going initiative by the College for
campus beautification for several years. Groups of employees
and students have participated informally in flower plantings
and some clean ups. The enhancement of the college by these
grass roots initiatives prompted the development of a gardening
club to facilitate these gardens and give input to the
college for the development of future gardens and future
decisions about the gardens from the student’s perspective.
In the fall of 2001 application was made to the MCC Student
Government to become a student club and the first ever
MCC Gardening Association blossomed.
The clubs efforts are focused on fundraising to develop
educational gardens on campus. The club also assists in
planning the Annual Earth Day Celebration hosted by MCC.
The MCCGA club has designed and planted gardens on campus,
assisted with the maintenance of flower gardens including
the Donnelly
Courtyard and hosts garden groups and speakers on campus.
One of our goals is to develop ties within the community
to strengthen our position and provide a wide base of knowledge
and resources.
