What is Phi Theta Kappa?
Established in November of 1918, Phi Theta Kappa has become the largest and the most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges around the world.

Is Phi Theta Kappa a Fraternity/Sorority?
No. Phi Theta Kappa is a 'society' of honor students. This organization is based solely on your academic excellence. Is there an initiation for new members? There is NO initiation for new members, although if you would like to undergo one, we can accommodate. We will not be pouring pork and beans down your underwear!

Why should I join Phi Theta Kappa?

  • Members of Phi Theta Kappa may apply for more than $33 million in transfer scholarships, provided exclusively to Society members by more than 550 senior institutions.
  • Members of Phi Theta Kappa may take advantage of several internally funded scholarship programs including the Leaders of Promise (for completion of associate degree) and the Guistwhite Scholarship (for completion of baccalaureate degree).
  • All members of Phi Theta Kappa are automatically nominated for the National Dean's List, a publication of America's most outstanding college students.
  • All members of Phi Theta Kappa receive the prestigious Golden Key Membership Pin. All members of Phi Theta Kappa receive the impressive Certificate of Membership.
  • Members of Phi Theta Kappa will have their membership in the international honor society noted on their transcript and may affix the Society's Gold Diploma Seal, denoting Society membership, to their two-year college diploma.
  • Members of Phi Theta Kappa may wear the Society's golden monogrammed Honors Stole and Tassel, at college commencement exercises, available through purchase.

When can I join Phi Theta Kappa and how much does it cost?
Phi Theta Kappa holds two Inductions of New Members each year, once during the fall semester and once during the winter semester. Students who meet the minimum requirements for membership will receive an invitation letter that is sent to their homes. There is a one-time fee of $85.00 to join ,which covers all international, regional and local fees. Students may also join during cap and gown sales, however, the one-time fee at that time is $115.00 to cover the added costs to the chapter.

Am I required to be active and how much time would be involved?
The time a member devotes to Phi Theta Kappa is a matter of individual choice. Some Phi Theta Kappa members choose to devote many hours to chapter activities; others may elect to not participate at all. No service activities may be required of new or old members; nor can the chapter withhold any benefits (i.e., wearing honors stole; receiving scholarship recommendations), according to the Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution.

Requirements for Phi Theta Kappa Membership: 12 Credit Hours Completed at MCC 100 level or higher with a 3.5 Grade Point Average. Must maintain 3.25 accumulative GPA
