Mott Community College and Flint STRIVE are working together to build a better workforce.

Several programs are available to assist employers of direct care workers improve their skills and capabilities.

If your staff members are having difficulty passing the required training classes or have job difficulties including attitude or attendance problems check these assistance programs:

WorkKeys Assessment Prior to Hire

WorkKeys generates powerful, proven results. WorkKeys is a highly a adaptable workforce development solution that defines your workforce needs, quantifies the minimum skill levels that will meet those needs and assesses your job applicants and/or current employees to determine the skill level they possess.

The WorkKeys System provides a complete spectrum of job analysis, assessment, instructional support, reporting and training identification services. The system uses a set of skill scales that accurately measure both the skills of individuals and the competency levels required for successful job performance.

Partnership for Adult Learning (PAL)

In many situations the reason for unsuccessful completion of a training program is due to reading difficulties. Repetition of the same training program will end with the same result if the participant does not understand what they read, or reads so slowly that they have forgotten what they have read.

Try suggesting the PAL Program. There is no cost to either the employer or employee. PAL provides learning assistance in reading, writing, language and mathematics in preparation for taking the GED examination.

PAL offers open enrollment with three sessions per day Mondays through Thursdays:

9:00 am – 12:00 pm
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
4:00 pm – 7:00pm

Classes are held at the Workforce Education Center/Garfield G. Wagner, Jr. Building

Flint STRIVE

STRIVE is a non-profit organization funded by the Mott Foundation. STRIVE works with employees who have potential but are currently experiencing problems, such as: dependability, punctuality, honesty, ability to work independently, ability to work with many different kinds of people, following directions, taking initiative, being a self-starter, work ethic.

STRIVE offers an intensive care management component and individual follow up to assure higher level performance.

STRIVE service is available at no cost to employer or employee.
