…a 'teach-in'…coordinated from the office of Senator Gaylord Nelson was launched through grassroots efforts at college's across the nation on April 22, 1970.
The Genesee County Celebration has been coordinated through the participation of many organizations. The first Earth Day Celebration in Genesee County began at the University of Michgan-Flint and for several years the community celebration was hosted on the Mott Campus with each college also providing activities for their respective campuses. The venue this year will place the event in the heart of downtown Flint at the University of Michigan Flint in the University Center. The over riding themes of the event this year include the: river, animals, urban center, food, and energy.
