Earth Day and Garden Celebration
Saturday, April 11, 2015 – 10:00am to 3:00pm
All activities will be held at UM-Flint Harding Mott University Center.
The following is a partial list of planned activities. Please check back as additional updates become available.
American Sign Language Interpreters will be participating.
Environmental Games and Activities: UM-Flint Early Childhood Center will provide some children’s activities.
Flint Farmer's Market: Visit the Flint Farmers' Market booth to find out what happening at the market! Bridge card holders can sign up for the Double Up Food Bucks Card Program. If you have a bridge card bring it along with your state ID or Driver's License and get your card on the spot. It is free and can earn you up to $20 a market day in FRESH MICHIGAN PRODUCE at the Flint Farmers' Market! For more information on the program please go to www.doubleupfoodbucks.org.
Flint River Watershed Coalition and Friends of the Flint River Watershed: Are participating as exhibitor and presenter providing valuable and current information on how to improve and preserve the quality of the Flint River and the watershed.
Food Forum: Buy local produce, get your questions answered and learn to make healthy choices. Featuring chef demonstrations.
Gardening with Native Plants & Local Organic Food Growers: Flint River Wild Ones and Mott Community College Gardening Association will have displays, educational materials, and giveaways. Local organic food growers will provide information on how and where to get organic produce that is grown locally.
Musical Performances: Local musical talent will perform in the afternon in 3rd Floor in Clint's Café.
Nature Discovery: Will be bringing their large collection of interesting reptiles and amphibians including many species native to Michigan. They will be conducting presentations in the KIVA at 11:00 am & 1:15 pm.
Recycled Art Contest: Students of all ages are encouraged to create their own recycled art projects, prior to the Earth Day & Garden Celebration. Entry forms are printable from the form page. Art entries, along with the completed form, need to be received no later than Noon on Saturday, April 12. Art entries will be exhibited throughout the day. Judging will be performed by the UM-Flint Communications and Visual Art Department faculty. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. in Clint's Cafe 3rd floor.
Chef Demonstrations: John Witlatch of the University Dining Services will be doing healthy cooking demonstrations.
Flowing River Tales Musical: Conducted by Riley McLincha. Riley is an entertaining popular author and singer who will be sharing his river tales as a Runayker from the headwaters of the Flint River to Niagara Falls.
