The Foundation held its annual Donor & Student Scholarship Recipient Reception on September 22nd, providing a tremendous opportunity for its donors to meet the students they help!

 

October

 

 

The Foundation co-hosted with the American Arabic Heritage Council ARABESQUE, a music ensemble, on October 1. Attendees enjoyed over two hours of music followed by a VIP Reception at MCC's Applewood Cafe. Many thanks for the AAHC for their support.





 

 

The Foundation hosted FINDING KIND: Movement and Documentary campaign on Saturday, October 2nd at the RTC, in cooperation with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. This presentation discussed girl-on-girl violence/crimes.




 

 

On October 8, The Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series hosted "Making a Living in the Arts," featuring 18 artists and working professionals in the visual arts, music, theater, film, photography and other artistic careers. Keynote Address was given by Illustrator Ernie Gilbert. Sessions included:
  1. Animation: "So You Want to be an Animator" featuring Ernie Gilbert
  2. Illustrator/Ceramics: “What is Life Like Being a Freelancer?” featuring Ryan Claytor, Pat Hardin
  3. Other Career Paths in Theater: “Working Behind the Scenes in Theater” Ronald Blakely, Bill Irwin, Colette Hawkins
  4. Motion Picture Trickery: Visual Effects Rick Shick (live video conference from Austin, Texas)
  5. Photography/Visual Arts: Capturing the Essence of Flint or Preserving Flint’s History Gordon LaVere, Lavarne Ross, Bill Stolpin, Stefan Davidek
  6. Acting: What is it Like to Make a Living as an Actor? Ben Cain, Kay Kelly, Tom Mahard, Steven Carpenter
  7. Music: Avoiding Pitfalls in the Music Industry Ivan Griffin, Mary Margaret St. John, Jason Lantrip




 

 

On October 11th, the Foundation hosted Peace & Dignity: Celebration of the Four Colors in its 18th annual ceremony celebrating the people of the earth on the MCC campus.



 

 

Amazing Grace: Wind Beneath Our Wings Tea on October 29th at Applewood Cafe honored Grace Alexander Washington, MCC faculty, for her contributions to MCC in defining and implementing the Culinary Arts Program as it is today! Grace took a vision and made it reality, creating a 5-star restaurant experience for culinary students. The event was a surprise and featured fashions by Royal Touch & singer Sgt. Jowanne Carrigan. The tea included general tea etiquette instruction, and guests were encouraged to don their hats and gloves! The event was hosted by the Foundation & the Women In Education Initiative. On November 18th a reception honoring Dr. Shaink for being named the CEO of North America's Community Colleges by the Association of Community College Trustees. Proceeds from the Reception established the Presidential Fund for Student Success at MCC.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community-Wide Tribute Dinner was held January 13th at Sarvis Center and featured guest speaker Sally Kagerer of Beauchamp ACE Hardware.

During Black History Month in February, the Foundation provided lunch featuring ethnic cuisine and entertainment at MCC's Applewood Cafe.

On February 10, Alexandria Bradley (shown at left) performed - singing and tap dancing.

On February 17, Dr. Michael Boucree and Ivan Griffin provided a musical performance.



 

 

February 25, The Foundation welcomed New York Celebrity Chef Daniel Vater to Mott! Chef Vater, his Sous Chefs and MCC's Chefs led the Culinary Arts program students in providing a fabulous 3-course meal at a fundraiser for the Women In Education Program. Guests were invited to participate along side Chef Vater in a cooking demonstration. The evening was a gem in The Foundation's crown jewels!

Sojourner Truth Community Theatre Women's History Month Poster

 

On March 3, The Foundation sponsored the Sojourner Truth Community Theatre at a performance/lunch at Applewood Cafe.



 

 

On March 13, The Foundation hosted a Farewell party for Tom Bryson of abc12 upon his retirement from broadcasting. Proceeds benefited the MCC Media Arts and Entertainment Technology Department at MCC.

Lenore Croudy Birthday Tribute

 

On March 30, The Foundation hosted a Tribute to everyone's Lifetime Friend and MCC Board Trustee Lenore Croudy in celebration of her birthday! Proceeds established an endowment in her name at The Foundation to benefit programming and students at MCC.

On April 14, The Foundation bestowed the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award to Ezra R. Artis, Sr., Sally Shaheen Joseph, J.D., Philip Shaltz and Michael J. Thorp.



 

 

Spring Affair Ballroom Dance with music provided by Charles Scales was held April 29, 2011 at the MCC Event Center and hosted by the MCC Alumni Association.

The 5th Annual Mott, Motown & More played to a SOLD OUT performance in MCC's Mott Memorial Building Auditorium on May 13, 2011, and featured Flint celebrities in lip sync performances. Hosted by the MCC Alumni Association.
