MCC, with initial funding support from the National Science Foundation/Advanced
Technology Education (NSF/ATE) program, developed a Tech Prep Associate
degree in Manufacturing Simulation. Using existing three-dimensional
computer-aided-design (CAD) models, simulation technology allows
designers and engineers to create and test “virtual”
assemblies. Design flaws can be detected early in the product development
cycle where they can be easily corrected – saving time and
money and putting high-performance products into operation more
quickly. The program utilized Sinclair Community College’s
curriculum architecture to create educational modules designed to
enhance existing manufacturing programs and develop modules that
focus on industr7-validated simulation competencies. This program
also includes simulation camps for middle and high school students.
These camps provide students with access to the same software used
by industry professionals and were designed to highlight skills
needed for 21st century, high-tech careers. Activities were designed
to be fun, educational, and to reinforce the need for solid skills
in match, science, and communication.
