The “Grant to Reduce Violent Crimes Against
Women on Campus” is
a two-year collaborative project with the University of Michigan – Flint,
as the lead applicant, Mott Community College, and the YWCA of
Greater Flint. This grant provides for the design and implementation
of a 3P Campaign to Prevent, Protect and Prosecute
Violence against Women. The goals of the project
are to create a coordinated response to violence against women
on both campuses, and create a safe and empowering network of services
for victims. The objectives of the 3P Campaign is to 1) ensure
women’s safety by improving the policing and security infrastructure
on the campus and in the neighborhood corridor between the two
campuses; 2) introduce new standards and approaches to institutional
behavior by designing appropriate curricula and providing mandatory
education to all incoming students, staff and faculty, and by training
campus police and security personnel, campus disciplinary officers
and administrators, as well as Student Services and Human Resource
staff; and 3) heighten campus awareness of the community resources
and legal options for victims through campus education efforts
conducted by students and supported by the Project Coordinators
on the respective campuses. These strategies will result in the
provision of training, equipment, and resources to increase the
prevention, identification, response, apprehension, investigation,
and adjudication of persons committing violent crimes against women
on campuses as well as improve the delivery of victim services. |
