Speak Up! is an opportunity for Genesee County high school students to spend a day on MCC’s main campus participating in a variety of seminars and workshops designed to facilitate their success in college-level writing courses. The workshops consist of morning seminars on “Writing Great Essays for College Applications,” “How to Survive Freshman Composition,” and “How to Succeed in College,” The workshops are presented by Master and Doctorate-level English faculty at MCC who teach in freshman composition, developmental writing, and a variety of literature courses.
The afternoon activities consist of a composition
for students to connect with the audience in poetry, short essays,
short stories, or original song. Speak Up! also allows K-12 teachers
to connect with college faculty for the purposes of coordinating
instruction to their students in preparing them for college. |
