Middle College – Early College Transitions Project
Funder: Middle College National Consortium
Amount: $200,000
Funding Period:1/1/2008 – 12/31/2009
Mott Community College received two-year grant funding from the Middle College National Consortium for the Mott Middle College’s transition to an Early College. Early College is a seamless, blended high school and college program starting in 9th grade which provides students with experiences, support, and opportunities to complete the requirements for a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree (or 60 transferable credits), at no cost to the student, within five or fewer years of starting high school. The purpose of this “Transitions” grant is to strengthen the transition of the Middle College into an Early College with the explicit goal of developing multiple pathways for all students to earn 24 transferable college credits by the end of their senior year in high school. Embedding at least 12 credits for all students as dual enrolled and dual credited with the remaining 12 taken either as dual credited or above the high school requirements is a minimum requirement of the Transitions Project. This represents a commitment to ensuring that there is not a college track and non-college track in Middle College Early Colleges. In addition, this grant is to strengthen the college – high school collaboration, which will sustain the Middle College Early College on the campus of Mott Community College.
