Application Process

Beginning mid-September 2007, Mott Community College (MCC) will only accept applications submitted through its online application process. Applications are accepted for posted positions only, with the exception of part-time faculty positions. Applications for part-time faculty positions are always accepted. Unsolicited applications for non-faculty and full-time faculty positions will not be acknowledged or considered.

The official job posting site can be accessed through this website. The official posting will contain a position summary, minimum and preferred qualifications and application procedures. Job postings are also located on the bulletin board outside the Human Resources Office and in the job postings book in Human Resources. In addition, positions are often advertised using various print and electronic sources.

In order to be considered for a position at MCC, an applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements of that position. The first part of our online application process consists of a form that lists the key minimum requirements for the position. An applicant will be asked to answer whether s/he meets the minimum requirements and to explain how the requirement is met. If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements, s/he will not be able to proceed with the application process.

The second part of the online application process is the general employment application. A section of this application requires certain electronic documents to be attached. These materials typically include a resume, cover letter, and, if applying for a full-time faculty position, a statement of teaching philosophy. Sometimes other documents or electronic files are required. In these cases, the required files will be listed in the job posting. Prior to beginning the application, please make sure you have read the job posting completely to determine if you have all of the required electronic files ready to submit with your application.

All hiring decisions are based on qualifications and suitability for the position. When an application is received, it is carefully screened against the position’s minimum and preferred requirements. Only those who appear to best meet the requirements will receive further consideration, which may include testing, phone screening and/or an interview.

As soon as an online application is submitted, an acknowledgement letter is sent to the email address provided on the application.

If you have applied for a part-time faculty opportunity, your application will be forwarded to the appropriate Dean. Specific part-time teaching needs for future semesters may not be known until the end of class registration. If a need materializes and it is determined your credentials meet the position requirements, you will receive further consideration and may be contacted for an interview.

If you have applied for a full-time faculty or a non-faculty position, your qualifications will be evaluated further. Depending on the outcome of this screening, the Office of Human Resources may request additional materials from you such as copies of unofficial transcripts and letters of reference. Only those who appear to best meet the position requirements will be asked to provide the supplemental documents.

If you do not hear from us after the initial email acknowledgement, it means that you are not actively being considered for the position and additional correspondence will not be sent. However, if you are a current MCC employee, additional correspondence will be sent once your status has been determined.

In order to be considered for future job openings, applicants must apply to each specific opening. Previously submitted materials cannot be returned, copied, or retrieved. Also, due to the volume of applications we receive and limited resources, we are unable to respond to inquiries pertaining to an applicant’s documentation or status. However, a position’s current status may be viewed by visiting the Employment Opportunities website at www.mott.jobs.

To learn even more about our selection process, we encourage you to access the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section of the Employment Opportunities website.
