We've been busy! Here is a recap of the cultural enrichment activities and university visits that SSS members had the opportunity to experience during winter semester. Remember, all TRiO-SSS activities are FREE to participants! Check your monthly calendars for upcoming events and join us! SSS members enjoy a Pistons game at the Palace of Auburn Hills. It was a real nail-biter; the Pistons beat the Lakers 90 - 89! SSS members volunteered at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan on February 23rd to celebrate National TRiO Day. We moved 5000 lbs. of food in just three hours! Members enjoyed the Learning Center Luau held during mid-term week to help our students de-stress. Free food, games, and prizes - what could be more relaxing? SSS students tour the UM-Flint campus. The tour included information on the new student housing due to open this fall. Members tour the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The tour included financial aid and transfer student presentations. Students tour the beautiful campus of Saginaw Valley State University. We had an Admissions presentation and experienced lunch on campus from the RFoC (Real Food on Campus.) PAGE 3 Upcoming Events... Don't forget Coordinator Chat! By now you should have received an invitation to the annual TRiO-SSS Graduate and Academic Achievement Banquet. This year our banquet will be held Friday, May 2nd in the newly renovated MCC Event Center from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Come and enjoy dinner and entertainment as we honor our graduates and those students that have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of fall semester. Wednesday, June 18th SSS will be taking a one-day trip to Chicago to see the musical “Wicked” and shop on the Magnificent Mile! This all-inclusive trip is open to the first 12 students who: Did not attend the Reward/Graduate trip to Orlando and Have earned at least 100 participation points or more We will leave MCC at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18th and return to MCC at approximately 1:00 a.m. Thursday, June 19th. Transportation, tickets to the play, and a boxed lunch are included. RSVP REQUIRED! Call 232 4696 by June 4th. ----------------------------- Student Highlights Congratulations to SSS members Darius Brents, Thomas Kennedy, Jeremie Simmons, Lamarr Drake, Alvin Pegues, and Jacquez Williams and the rest of the Mott Bears Men's Basketball team for winning the NJCAA National Championship! The A's and B's Jar will be back beginning fall semester 08/09. Participation Points All Participation Points earned will be erased the end of the winter semester, May 2nd. You may start earning Participation Points for spring semester beginning Monday, May 5th. Be sure to redeem what you have earned before Friday, May 2nd. Don't let your hard work go to waste! Laptop Loan The SSS Laptop Loan will be available for both spring and summer semesters. Stop by and see your Coordinators to borrow a laptop while you're here on campus.
