Description: This is a self-paced instructional module that provides an overview of the federal law related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that became effective in April 2003. The module is designed to meet the requirements for all Health Science students who will do a clinical rotation at a local health care institution. The module outlines the specific requirements covered by HIPAA, the health professional's responsibilities and implications of compliance and non-compliance with the law. This course may be a pre-requisite to the clinical experience for the student.
