Publication Design for Print Production

Course Requirements: Prerequisite: Placement into RDNG-030 (ACSR-030), or completion of RDNG-016.Prerequisite: ART.-244.
Description: The focus of this course is on advanced techniques in the development, planning, design and production of several different types of print publications, with emphasis on the preparation for printing. As an extension of ART-244, students will further develop their skill in software layout and learn production and planning techniques necessary for success in print design. In addition, students will gain skills related to print design including project planning, file preparation, proofing, paper and ink specifications, project supervision, font and image management for final output to film for offset reproduction and other methods of printing. Students will learn to work with outside vendors such as printers, paper and ink suppliers, bindery and service bureaus in providing final delivery of a completed project. Use of the computer lab will be required and some field trips may be arranged. Internet access will be necessary for some aspects of project research and development.
