Description: The laboratory section of the study of bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses, with special emphasis on their role in the causation of disease, and their ecological importance. Modes of infection, methods of prevention, and means of laboratory diagnosis; methods of disinfection and sterilization; and general principles of immunity will be discussed. Lab work includes staining techniques, identification of microorganisms, bacterial growth patterns, and a brief survey of human parasites.
