Respiratory Neonatal/Pediatric Care

Course Requirements: Prerequisite: Placement into ENGL-100 (ACSR-100), or completion of RDNG-030, ACLT-075, or ACLT-076; RTAD-150, RTAD-154, and RTAD-155. Co-requisite: RTAD-221, RTAD-224, and RTAD-225.
Description: This course introduces the student to the theory, therapeutic procedures, and equipment utilized in the care of the pediatric and neonatal patient. The physiological concepts and equipment principles of adult care introduced in previous semesters will be integrated into the principles of newborn and pediatric care. The areas of study include: assessment and management of the newborn, neonatal and pediatric resuscitation, management of respiratory distress and failure, mechanical ventilation, respiratory disease and disorders and asthma education. A laboratory component is included to provide hands on practice and practical reinforcement of the material introduced in the lecture part of the course. This course will require the student to utilize critical thinking to assess and analyze patient information to problem solve and develop sound decision making skills with respect to patient management.
