This program is competency based and focuses on the NAEYC Standards for Associate Degree Programs. Students who are taking Early Childhood Education courses are eligible for positions as child care center and family child care providers; workers in before and after school programs; staff in Head Start classroom and various other agencies. A current Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry (CA/NR) clearance must be obtained from the Michigan Department of Human Services prior to the first class meeting of all ECE classes. A copy must be on file in the Social Science Office, MMB 2005 and updated yearly. In addition, students must earn a minimum of 2.0 in all ECE occupational specialty courses and earn a minimum of 3.0 in ECED 205 to meet graduation requirements.
