The Steelheads are a steel band and percussion group composed
of students of James Coviak from Mott
Community College and the University
of Michigan-Flint. Alumni of the program and other professional musicians often perform with the Steelheads as special guests. Founded and directed by James Coviak, the Steelheads perform in dozens of events each year throughout the community of greater Flint and across the state of Michigan.
The Steelheads have performed in an impressive list of major venues across North America and Europe. (visit Steelheads History). The group is consistently recognized for musical excellence (visit Accolades). The steel band curriculum was created in 1993 at Mott Middle College High School — a program operated by the Genesee Intermediate School District. Advanced members of the Mott Middle College program have the opportunity to audition and perform with the Steelheads.
