Appendix B: Tips For Job Success

Students must complete the following steps to qualify for work study:
1.
Students apply for the program by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA). The application is available at any high school, library or financial aid office or branch campus. This document will provide financial data necessary to compute the student's need. It is mailed by the student, using the envelope in the FAFSA, to the processing center or students can complete the form on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
2.
The federal processing center takes approximately three to six weeks to send a document, entitled the Student Aid Report (SAR), directly to the applicant. Once received by the student, the SAR should be brought immediately to the Office of Student Financial Services, located in the Prahl College Center, Lower Level.

Students are then required to complete the MCC Financial Aid Application and supply the Office of Student Financial Services with requested documentation (i.e. income tax forms, SSI statements, etc.).
4.
TheOffice of Student Financial Services mails the Financial Aid Award Letter (see Appendix A), indicating an award to participate in the work study program, to students. The amount of the work study award is the amount of money a student may earn per semester while participating in the program. Students must accept the work study award to be eligible for the program. The amount of the work study award may change if other sources of aid are subsequently disbursed, for example loans, scholarships, etc. It is the students' responsibility to monitor their earnings and not exceed the awarded amount.
5.
Students accepting work study must contact the Student Employment Center, located in the lower level of the Prahl College Center for further information about College Work Study. Students must also attend a Student Employment Orientation and complete registration for student employment and all required verification forms prior to obtaining referrals for work.
Note: The work study program is a financial aid entitlement. Students may file the Student Aid Report at any time; however, campus-based aid is limited and is only available until the funds are exhausted. Early applicants will receive priority. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid qualifies students for all Title IV financial aid programs.
