Professional Tutors are faculty
instructors and/or have a university degree in the subject
in which they tutor. Over and above what Peer Tutors do,
Professional Tutors work on the basics in depth, enabling
students to begin the learning process in any given subject.
The Professional Tutor will review, underscore and reinforce
the skills and knowledge needed so that students can begin
to master the content of the course. Professional Tutors
work by appointment only. A coordinator will meet with the
student to determine eligibility. Call the Learning Center
for our open hours as they vary from semester to semester.
The One-on-one tutoring sessions are for a 50-minute weekly
appointment.
Benefits of Professional Tutoring in the Learning
Center include:
- Professional degreed tutors offering individual
attention
- Clarification of the assignment
- Learning how to
proofread/edit
- Documenting resources for research projects
- Reference materials in nearby library
- Wide variety
of learning models/charts
Students
must meet certain eligibility requirements for
professional tutoring. If you are accepted into the Special Populations Program federal mandate does not allow us to provide tutoring in developmental courses (ie. ENG098 or 099 and MATH021).
