Project Lead the Way

Girls STEM Camp

July 10 & 17, 2017

The Science and Mathematics Division hosted the Carmen-Ainsworth School District's 5th Grade Girls STEM Camp on Monday, July 10th and July 17th. District faculty and staff brought 23 girls to our campus to participate in several events throughout the days. Events included:

  • Biology faculty members Dr. Sharon Schapel and Krystal Roos taught hands-on lessons that included Sheep Heart Dissection and Anatomy & Physiology activities using human lung models.
  • Lab support specialists Brandon Guelette and Sue Morris provided the group with tours of the Geology Museum, our Greenhouses, Chemistry lab and instrument room, as well as visiting our new 150 gallon fish tank.
  • Girls participated in campus tours facilitated by Admissions
  • Overview of the FABLAB with Doug Prehoda and Thomas Herold Health Sciences and the manikins with Samantha Badalamente
  • Overview and tour of the Durham Fitness Center with Robert Reynolds
