Visas other than F-1

Welcome to Mott Community College.

Mott Community College welcomes international students to join our vibrant and diverse campus community. Our staff and faculty are committed to helping you attain your goals and want you to get a good start toward success.

Who can apply through International Admissions as a non-immigrant student?

A student is considered Non-immigrant for “admission” purposes if they:

  • Hold a valid non-immigrant visa/status in the USA, such as F-2, E-2, H1B, J-2, L-2, etc.
  • Is “undocumented” with no immigration status, or under the Temporary Protected Status
  • Is a “pending permanent resident” (application for permanent resident status to USCIS has been submitted but has not yet been adjudicated)

If you currently have a visa of non-immigrant status (such as B2, C, D, etc.) that does not allow for full-or part-time study, you cannot take classes at Mott Community College. In this case, you must travel outside of the U S and apply for an F-1 visa or if you choose to stay in the US you must apply for a Change of Status with USCIS before starting your studies. You should contact an admission’s International Representative to set up an appointment as soon as you know that you want to change your status. For more information regarding F1 international student admission, please visit instructions for applying for an I-20 form.

Steps to Admission:

  1. New applicant - complete the online application for admission. Be sure to check the “current” immigration status for your citizenship/immigration status.
  2. If you are a returning student or previously applied for admission, please email admissions@mcc.edu for next step instructions.

  3. All supporting documents must be received at least one month before the new semester start date at Mott Community College.

Attach photocopies of your passport pages, your I-94 (arrival/departure document) and/ or other documents concerning your current immigration status in the PDF format. Use your “first name”, “last name” and “Non-immigrant” in the subject line to admissions@mcc.edu for faster processing.

Please allow five business days for processing after a complete application and supporting documentation are submitted for an admission decision.

Steps to enrollment (What to do after being admitted to Mott Community College?)

  1. Take the Placement Test and/or Submit Test Scores

The placement test determines the appropriate course level placement for first term student. You may be exempt from taking some or all sections of the test if you have qualifying ACT, SAT, or CLEP scores. Further details on Placement Testing can be found here.

Please review the on line college catalog for additional requirements for acceptance to some programs of study. Based on placement test results, students may be required to take skill-building courses prior to enrollment in credit bearing program courses.

  2. Foreign Transcript Evaluation

Students who wish to receive transfer credit from universities and colleges outside of the United States must first have the international transcripts evaluated by a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

  3. Reserve your space for Orientation (login to MCC4me portal)

New students are required to attend orientation, where new students are assisted in the registration process. We offer a variety of options to orient you to MCC and help you get off to a successful start. Students who attend orientation EARLY typically have more accessibility and option when registering for courses.

  4. Financial Aid information

International students are not eligible for any federal government financial aid program (i.e. Pell Grants, student loans, Federal Work Study). However, you are encouraged to apply for scholarship and College-work-study employment opportunities on campus.

  5. Tuition & Fees - Out of State

  6. Academic Calendar / Dates and Deadlines

  7. Additional Support

Want to add or drop a class? Got a question about your bill? Please contact the Office of International Student Support at 810-762-0358.
