History of Earth Day

Forty eight years ago, Earth Day began as…a 'teach-in'…coordinated from the office of Senator Gaylord Nelson and was launched through grassroots efforts at college's across the nation on April 22, 1970. Read more at Earth Day Network - The History of Earth Day

The Genesee County Earth Day Celebration has been coordinated through the participation of many organizations. The first Earth Day Celebration in Genesee County began at the University of Michigan-Flint and for several years the community event has alternated being hosted at either the University of Michigan-Flint Campus or the Mott Campus. The prevailing themes of the event this year include: healthy and sustainable living, The Flint River, animals, energy, and food.
