My name is Mary Beth Schmekel and I have been a member of the Nursing and Allied Health faculty at MCC since 1999 (fulltime since 2005). I have worked as a Registered Nurse in many roles since 1980. Like my students, I started my educational journey at a community college and earned an Associates Degree. While working fulltime, it took me nine more years to get a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University. The ultimate challenge was taking graduate-level courses on-line with the dreaded ‘dial-up’ method of having internet! My Master’s in Nursing Education is from Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska.
I have three grown children and two grandsons. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, boating, and crossword puzzles.
I really enjoy teaching at MCC. Both face-to-face and on-line courses have allowed me to meet so many great people who are working hard to achieve their education, and eventually their healthcare degree.
