Pam Faris to Deliver Keynote Address at MCC Graduation
State Representative Pam Paris will deliver the commencement address for Mott Community College's (MCC) graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. in the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, 3501 Lapeer Road in Flint. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
“It is an honor to have Mott Community College alumna and former Trustee Pam Faris address our 2018 graduates,” said MCC President, Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea. “Representative Faris is a strong supporter of education in Michigan, and someone who has helped shape the future of education, women’s issues, government and health policies for our entire state.”
State Representative Pam Faris is currently serving her third term as Representative of the 48th Michigan House District. Before joining the Michigan House of Representatives, Faris was elected to the Mott Community College Board of Trustees. As a member of the Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation and the Michigan Women’s Commission, Faris worked to improve education and advance women’s health and equality policy throughout the state. She retired from the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office, where she served as jury coordinator.
Faris has been appointed to serve on the House Appropriations Committee during each of her three terms in office. Her current appointments include Minority Vice-Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, and as a member of the School Aid and Education and the General Government Appropriations Subcommittees. She has also served as legislative co-chair of the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund; Political Action Committee Chair of the Progressive Women’s Caucus; and a member of her caucus’ Great Lakes Task Force. She was appointed by the Speaker of the House to represent the Michigan House of Representatives this term as a member of the Health and Human Services Committees for both the Council of State Governments and the National Council of State Legislatures.
Approximately 500 graduating students will receive associate’s degrees and professional certificates in person on May 5. The Commencement ceremony is an opportunity for the college to pay tribute to its graduates for outstanding efforts shown in earning their degrees and certificates. MCC holds Commencement once a year at the end of the Winter Semester. A total of 1,098 students at MCC are eligible to graduate this year. (Eligible means the students have completed or are within two classes of completing degree requirements). The College offers 42 occupational associate’s degree, four transfer associate’s degree and 50 professional certificate programs.
