MCC Fine Arts Gallery hosts alumnus Pauly M. Everett
The Mott Community College Fine Arts Gallery in the Visual Arts and Design Center will present an exhibition of paintings by MCC alumnus and Flint area artist Pauly M. Everett. His work will be in the gallery from Sept. 24 through Oct. 9. In addition, Everett will give a public talk about his work in the Fine Arts Gallery on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
Everett, of Flint, is well-known for his contributions to the local arts scene and his volunteerism and advocacy for fine arts in area elementary schools. Gaining a solid artistic foundation in his primary and secondary education, he has worked and studied a diverse variety of mixed mediums. Heavily influenced by street art, the underground community, popular culture, music and travel, he has developed his own contemporary and abstract style, mixing vibrant color and unique mediums through his painting.
Everett explains his work as “Creating a peaceful experience from the chaotic state that many of us find ourselves sometimes in...” In his efforts to share an inclusive experience with his community, he engages others, regularly collaborating with fellow artists making art in the streets of Flint and throughout Michigan with the Flint Underground, a group of Flint-based artists, musicians, performers, poets, curators, organizers and writers.
He actively promotes and organizes artistic events, focused on growing awareness of the artistic community and empowering creativity within the greater Flint area, including serving as curator for ArtWalk at Churchill’s and a volunteer bringing art experience to Flint school children.
The Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Visual Arts and Design Center on the Mott Community College main campus in Flint. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free and open to the public. For more information, call the Art and Design office at 810-762-0443.
