The Mott Campus Clowns are a trained clown troupe made up of honor’s students who are serious about the issue of bullying. Eight years ago, the group launched a new anti-bullying comedy magic show to help elementary school students deal with, and prevent, bullying.

Dr. Brian Ivory, Honors Program coordinator at MCC, oversees the Mott Campus Clowns, a troupe comprised of MCC honor students enrolled in the service learning course Social Diversity and Civic Engagement Lab (HONS 251).

As a course requirement, students enrolled in HONS 251 each develop a unique clown character complete with a clown name, costume and make-up. The students also spend seven weeks rehearsing an anti-bully program they will perform this month at schools, Boys and Girls Clubs and public events in Flint and Detroit.

All of the appearances of the Mott Campus Clowns are supervised by Ivory, (a.k.a. Dr. Bubby the Clown). Ivory is a 1987 graduate of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. In 2011 he "un-retired" from clowning to recruit and train the Mott Campus Clowns in service of the troupe’s motto: “Our hearts are bigger than our shoes.” Sponsorship of the Mott Campus Clowns is provided by Mott Community College, primarily through student activity fees.
