MCC Fine Arts Gallery to host Donovan Entrekin

The Mott Community College Fine Arts Gallery in the Visual Arts and Design Center will present an exhibition of work by Flint-area artist and former MCC student Donovan Entrekin titled ‘Attempted Artworks: Paintings and Drawings.” His work will be in the MCC Fine Arts Gallery from Nov. 5 through Nov. 20. In addition, Entrekin will give a public presentation about his work on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Visual Art and Design Center, room 129.

Entrekin is currently Director of the School of the Flint Institute of Arts. He earned a certificate in Painting and Printmaking from MCC and an MFA in Studio Art from the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts. Selected exhibitions include the 10th Annual NUDE Exhibition at the Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Masters of Drawing at the Dow Museum of Science and Art in Midland and the Flesh at the Ellipsis Gallery in Philadelphia.

Entrekin’s Artist Statement:
“Painting and drawing opens up opportunities to see. By conjuring pictures from memories and visions, rather than by direct observation, I am released from the demands of literality and am able to offer experimental images that are delirious and suggestive. This is the great value of art from me: it offers a chance to penetrate fleeting spaces that are familiar yet ecstatic and revelatory. My paintings are made for people who prefer dreams over elucidation.”

The Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Visual Arts and Design Center on the Mott Community College main campus in Flint. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free and open to the public. For more information, call the Art and Design office at 810-762-0443.
