“A Great Nation Is A Compassionate Nation” 40th Annual ML King Tribute Dinner
The 40th Annual Citywide Tribute Dinner in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., centered on the theme “A Great Nation Is a Compassionate Nation,” will be Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. This year’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Agustin V. Arbulu, Executive Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
The dinner celebration, scheduled to start at 6 p.m., is open to the public. Tickets are $50 per person. Sponsorships are available at $500 for a table seating ten. The 2019 Tribute Dinner is presented by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee and co-sponsored by Baker College of Flint, Davenport University, Mott Community College, Hamilton Community Health Network, Kettering University and the University of Michigan-Flint.
The Keynote Speaker
Dr. Agustin V. Arbulu brings more than 16 years of senior management experience to his position as Executive Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR). For more than 30 years, Arbulu has been involved in a variety of civic and community organizations, including as President and Founder of the Hispanic Bar of Michigan and the Hispanic Business Alliance, and serving on a number of boards including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Leadership Detroit and the Lyric Chamber Ensemble.
He is a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph-Oakland Hospital, which is part of Trinity Health System. Arbulu also serves as chair of the Michigan Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Before joining MDCR, Arbulu served as President/CEO of a post-acute care organization aimed at reducing re-hospitalization and maximizing patient satisfaction. His prior work experience also includes holding senior management/leadership positions in the manufacturing, health care and nonprofit sectors, and 15 years as a practicing attorney specializing in corporate, business and tax law. Arbulu has taught graduate-level courses on organizational leadership, change management, finance and strategy. He earned an executive doctorate degree in management from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management. He also holds two MBAs – the first from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and the second from Lawrence Technological University – as well as a juris doctor from the University of Detroit School of Law and an LLM in Taxation from New York University Law School.
