He was a professor of music theory, piano and percussion at the Hot Club jazz school in Lisbon, Portugal, and in 2014 he was a guest professor, performer and lecturer at the 12th International Percussion Festival of Patagonia in General Roca, Argentina.

Holen is currently working with Jesus Hernandez and the New Bojaira and is writing big band arrangements for the People's Jazz Band in Flint, Michigan.
