MCC Music Prof has busy year ahead

For Dr. Townes Osborn Miller, Mott Community College Associate Professor of Music, Outreach and Coordinator, 2020 is going to be a busy year, with four concerts, two masterclasses, two concert tours, and the National Flute Association convention in addition to her regular teaching load at MCC and Saginaw Valley State University.

Dr. Miller, with Delaina Oberman, on percussion, and Dr. Carl Angelo, on piano, will give the World Premiere of a commission written for them entitled, "Dragonfly" by MCC Associate Professor, Dr. Bill Withem. Performances will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Sunday, February 23 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. This concert will be repeated at Saginaw Valley State University on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.

In March, Dr. Miller will collaborate with Dr. Brittnee Seimon, mezzo-soprano, from Brevard College, North Carolina, in two concerts. The first will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door, and the second at Saginaw Valley State University on Tuesday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.

Dr. Miller will present a Masterclass at Oakland University on April 7, for the college’s flute majors, and in May, she will travel with the International Flute Orchestra performing in Provence and the Italian Riviera. Upon her return to the US Dr. Miller will participate in a 3-day residency at the New England Conservatory with the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra in July, with a concert in Jordan Hall followed by a performance tour in the Baltics.

In August, Dr. Miller will continue with her role as Volunteer Coordinator for the National Flute Association and will perform with the International Flute Orchestra at the annual convention to be held in Dallas, TX.

The Music Department at Mott Community College offers a comprehensive two-year collegiate music program designed to fulfill the freshman and sophomore requirements needed to transfer to four year colleges and universities. Unique to MCC among community colleges, the College has both a strong jazz studies and chamber ensemble program. Offering a broad musical curriculum from classical to jazz and commercial music, the music department serves a wide variety of students.
