Dr. Venkat K. Rao was born on August 5, 1951, in India and immigrated to the U.S. in 1976. He served on The Foundation for MCC’s board of directors for many years and was passionate about helping students. Specializing in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine, he made Mid-Michigan his home in 1992. Known for his kindness and dedication, he served in leadership roles including Chair of the Michigan Board of Medicine and Chair of Internal Medicine at McLaren Flint. He was a devoted mentor and volunteer on many medical boards, credited with starting the Student Emergency Fund. Dr. Rao’s impactful career was marked by compassion, service, and commitment to the medical community until his passing in 2023.
The community, Dr. Rao's family and Mott Community College faculty, staff and students came together to celebrate the life and enduring impact of a truly generous and committed individual.
