Mott Community College (MCC) is dedicated to keeping higher education affordable and accessible for our entire community. By connecting students with state tuition guarantees, federal grants and donor-funded scholarships, MCC ensures local residents can earn valuable degrees and workforce credentials without taking on burdensome debt.

Major Tuition-Free Pathways for Local Students

MCC helps students maximize every available funding stream to lower out-of-pocket educational costs:

  • Community College Guarantee: Provides a tuition-free path for in-district recent high school graduates, covering in-district tuition, contact hours and mandatory fees. Eligible students have an 18-month window after high school graduation to enroll and can receive up to $1,000 to assist with textbooks, transportation and living expenses.
  • Michigan Reconnect: Covers in-district tuition and fees for adult learners aged 21 and older who do not yet hold a college degree. This last-dollar program enables returning adult students to upskill for local career opportunities at zero tuition cost.
  • Senior Gold Card Program: Senior citizens (age 60 or older) who reside within MCC’s district receive tuition-free enrollment in regular credit classes on a space-available basis (students pay for fees and books). The Gold Card also provides a 50% course discount for many Lifelong Learning classes.
  • MCC Foundation Scholarships: The Foundation for Mott Community College offers approximately 300 specialized scholarship awards to need-based and deserving students. Through a single general application, students are automatically matched to opportunities ranging from $100 up to full tuition coverage.
  • Federal Grants and Earned Aid: MCC connects students to non-repayable aid such as Federal Pell Grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), as well as Federal Work-Study opportunities that allow students to earn income on or off campus while completing their studies.

High Standards and Student Accountability

Affordability is paired with accountability to ensure public and private resources are used responsibly. To retain financial aid eligibility, MCC students must meet specific Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) guidelines:

  • Academic Performance: Maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
  • Course Completion: Successfully complete at least 67% of all registered classes.
  • Program Pace: Finish their certificate or degree program within 150% of the standard program timeframe.

Maximum Value for District Residents and Guest Students

Whether a student is earning an associate degree at Mott Community College or taking transferable summer courses as a visiting guest student, MCC offers one of the lowest tuition rates in the region. By leveraging state matching funds and donor contributions, MCC stretches local support further, keeping tuition low, reducing student reliance on loans and building a stronger local workforce.

Beyond Tuition: Holistic Student Support

Mott Community College recognizes that life’s unexpected hurdles can impact a student's ability to stay in school. Through generous contributions from The Foundation for Mott Community College and its donors the college is able to offer wrap-around support services to ensure non-academic expenses do not disrupt learning. These services are provided by donations, not public funds.

  • Student Emergency Fund Grants: One-time monetary assistance (up to $1,000) for active students facing unforeseen crises, such as utility shut-offs, emergency housing costs or major vehicle repairs.
  • Faculty-Sponsored Book Loans: Short-term emergency loans sponsored by Mott Community College Education Association (MCCEA) to help students purchase required textbooks and course supplies at the start of the semester.
  • Technology Access: Free Chromebook loan kits (including device, charger and bag) so enrolled students have the necessary tools to complete online and hybrid coursework.
